Developer, Sales, and Administration profiles

    Punta Bocana is owned and developed by Roberto Acosta and his wife Melida Solis.  Mr. Acosta is a structural engineer by trade.  After graduating from the University of Costa Rica in 1981, Mr. Acosta went to work for I.C.E., Costa Rica’s state sponsored monopoly of electricity and telecommunications, as a chief engineer and planner.  Shortly thereafter Mr. Acosta went to work for the private sector by joining Grupo H. Solis, one of Costa Rica’s oldest and largest heavy construction companies.  As a part of Grupo H. Solis, Mr. Acosta has been in charge of some of Costa Rica’s most ambitious public works projects, including runways at two international airports, bridges for major new highway developments, and the maritime ports of Limon and Moin, all of which have ushered Costa Rica into the 21^st century of infrastructure development.

    In 1998, Mr. Acosta and Mrs. Solis purchased Grupo H. Solis from its founder and namesake, and has since been responsible for over $250 million in total volume.  Acting as chief engineer for the company, Mr. Acosta takes pride in overseeing many different projects at one time.  Through his reputation for coming in on time and under budget, Mr. Acosta has been awarded contracts using funds from the World Bank, under careful scrutiny of their accountants, for many of his public works projects.  From his past successes in dealing with projects of such a large scale and valuation, Mr. Acosta has secured the concession to build Costa Rica’s newest hydro-electric dam, a project valued at over $100 million.

    In addition to the infrastructure and public works developments Grupo H. Solis has become known for, Mr. Acosta has unprecedented experience in large, residential planning, construction, and development. Recognizing the need for affordable, single family homes and communities in San Jose, Mr. Acosta partnered with a Venezuelan developer to create Con Casa Costa Rica.  Mr. Acosta acted as Chief Engineer for the development, while at the same time oversaw all construction under the Grupo H. Solis umbrella.  This construction project included over 3000 residential units and metropolitan buildings between 6 and 12 stories.

    Mrs. Solis acts as President of Grupo H. Solis.  Mrs. Solis is responsible for the management of 6 different companies under the Grupo H. Solis umbrella and is actively involved in business development, both in the public and private sectors.  Mrs. Solis actively manages the many assets of these companies, currently valued at over $100 million, which include gravel pits, steel manufacturing facilities, concrete plants, and millions of dollars worth of heavy equipment.  In addition to strong asset holdings, these companies operate with minimal debt.  Grupo H. Thomas Walker Sales & Marketing Director, Punta Bocana Mr. Walker brings over 20 years in resort and residential sales and marketing experience to the group.  After selling his private business in Florida in 2001, Mr. Walker moved to Mexico in order to work with one of the leading Latin American hoteliers.  Mr. Walker left Mexico for the Dominican Republic in 2005 where he went to work with one of the largest Real Estate sales and marketing companies in North America.  Mr. Walker helped launch one of the Dominican Republic's most known developments, with single day sales totaling over $100 million.  In 2006, Mr. Walker was called upon to launch the St. Regis Costa Rica as Sales Director.  Mr. Walker has over 2 years experience in Costa Rica and has been integral in selling the first phase of the Punta Bocana resort. thomaswalker@puntabocana.com

Hunter Stone Kowalewski Sales & Finance Mr. Kowalewski graduated from The University of Georgia with a BA in Spanish with a focus in Marketing in 2005.  After helping launch one of the most successful real estate ventures in the ski in / ski out community of Park City, Utah totaling over $80 million in single day sales,  Mr. Kowalewski moved to Costa Rica in 2006 to launch the St. Regis.  Mr. Kowalewski specializes in working directly with Developers on both the sales and finance sides of development.  In addition to his work within sales and finance, Mr. Kowalewski’s Spanish language skills allow him to communicate with an ever growing market in this globalized economy. Beatriz Alvarez Architectural Interior Designer Beatriz Alvarez graduated from the University of Miami in Architectural Interior Design, opened her practice B-Adesign after designing over 300,000 ft2 of retail space where she gained recognition for international projects. Wanting to explore new opportunities in the field, her hospitality and luxury residential began where she developed projects in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.
